Ida the Young – Tell Me When You Pass the Sun (2026) 12" + 7"

After two EPs, several singles and almost two hundred shows during the last couple of years the Pilsen/Prague band Ida The Young releases its debut full-length album Tell Me When You Pass The Sun via Korobushka Records.

The majority of the record is made up of compositions put together by the current five-piece line-up and offers plenty of contrasts during its 45-minute run, such as the interwoven Beatle-esque guitar harmonies of the opening song, or the pulsating guitar and bass harmonies and dissonant melodies descending under the hypnotic vocals of the song Big White Nothing. Other parts of the album feature atmospheric electronic textures or moments built around parts by keyboardist Jakub Richtárech. The band's folk origins are echoed in the intimate acoustic Stand Still, while a sharp turn comes with the closer Common Knowledge, which reaches a cathartic finale with an electronic beat taking over the live instrumentation.

“We tried to combine the different approaches that we took on previous recordings and at the same time capture the energy of the current line-up, in which we have found a balance both creatively and as players,” summarizes the circumstances of its creation multi-instrumentalist Pavel Kielberger, who is also responsible for the mixing and electronic moments of the album.

Drummer Filip Simon has swapped his minimalist kit from the band's early days for a full drum set, and unlike previous releases, keyboards and percussion also appear in the instrumentation. What remains, however, is the confident expression of British-born singer Iris Hobson-Mazur.

"The songs on this album tread the line between what is intimate and personal to me and what is complete fantasy," she writes of her lyrics. "I find that the two worlds seem to collide when I write lyrics, not only through creating characters and situations I’ve never been in but also through recognising my own delusions in how I perceive the world around me. I like to feel as if my own experiences are somewhere hidden throughout the song, but to most people and sometimes even to myself, it isn’t exactly clear where they begin and where they end."

Ida The Young produced the album on their own, but invited Austrian multi-instrumentalist Julian Werl (Nichi Mlebom) to record it. “Julian is close to us both through his collaboration with friendly bands sinks and Hello Incognito, but also through his approach to music and recording,” says founding member Marek Koliha. “Most of the album was created during two week-long sessions in his studio in Brno.”
